This guide walks you through applying for your TowPay merchant account with Stripe, our payment processing partner.

Before you start

  • You should have received an invite email titled either "NEXT STEPS | Complete your TowPay Merchant Application!" or "NEXT STEPS | Finish your TowPay Merchant Application!"

  • If you use Gmail, check your Promotions tab if you don't see it in your inbox.

  • Have your banking details and business information ready — you'll need both to complete the application.

Step 1: Start your application

Click the link in your invite email. It will take you to Stripe, the backend processor for TowPay.

Step 2: Create your Stripe account

Enter the email address you want on file for your TowPay merchant account and create a password.

Step 3: Verify your phone number

Add your phone number and verify your account with the code sent to your device. You don't need to save the backup code shown after verification — just click Next to continue.

Step 4: Fill out the Stripe merchant application

Business details you enter must match your business's legal registration documents exactly. You can't leave any field blank — enter the information to the best of your knowledge.

  1. Business details — enter your registered business address and basic business info.

  2. Type of business (entity type) — select Individual, Company, or Nonprofit organization.

  3. Business structure — select the option that matches your entity (e.g., Sole proprietorship, LLC, Corporation).

  4. Legal business name and EIN — this must exactly match your IRS documents (Letter 147C or SS-4 Confirmation letter), including capitalization and punctuation.

  5. Industry type (MCC code) — use Transportation > Other Transportation as the recommended code.

  6. Business website and product description — if you don't have a website, you can enter your Yelp or Facebook page instead. This field can't be left blank.

  7. Business representative — enter the legal name, email, job title, and date of birth of the executive, senior manager, or person with significant control over the business who is activating this account.

  8. Bank details for deposit — click the button under the bank logos to enter your routing and account numbers manually, rather than logging into your bank account.

  9. Customer support details — enter your Statement Descriptor (your DBA/"Doing Business As" name), which is what customers see on their bank statement. For the Shortened Descriptor (used on mobile interfaces, 10-character limit), enter as much of your business name as fits.

  10. Review your details — double-check everything is correct before submitting.

  11. Submit — review the Connected Account Agreement, then click Submit.

You're all set!

Common questions

What if my EIN doesn't match my business name exactly?
Stripe requires the combination of your legal business name and EIN to match your IRS documents exactly, including capitalization and punctuation. Double-check against your Letter 147C or SS-4 Confirmation letter before submitting.

What MCC code should I use?
We recommend Transportation > Other Transportation for towing businesses.

I don't have a business website — what do I enter?
Use your Yelp page or Facebook business page instead. This field is required and can't be left blank.

What's the difference between the Statement Descriptor and Shortened Descriptor?
The Statement Descriptor is your full DBA name, shown on standard bank statements. The Shortened Descriptor is a 10-character version used on mobile interfaces — enter as much of your business name as fits.
